Privacy Policy
Effective date:
This static information site uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand aggregate readership. It has no visitor accounts, forms, payment system, or first-party visitor database.
Information We Collect Directly
We do not operate an account system, contact forms, or a database. We do not ask you to submit names, email addresses, travel plans, payment information, or viewing preferences on the site itself.
Optional Device Location for the Map
The interactive map can ask your browser for device location only after you choose Use my location and approve the browser permission. The returned latitude, longitude, and available altitude are processed in your browser to calculate local eclipse circumstances; the site does not transmit or store those coordinates. You can deny or revoke the permission and enter coordinates manually instead.
Cookies and Analytics (Google Analytics 4)
Every page loads Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-3V9EBD3GN8) via Google's gtag.js. GA4 sets cookies and collects data such as your approximate (IP-derived, anonymized) location, device and browser type, referring page, and the pages you view, so we can understand aggregate traffic. GA4 anonymizes IP addresses by default. Data is processed by Google, including on servers in the United States. See Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
AI Referral Measurement
When a visit arrives from a recognised AI answer service, the site classifies only the referrer's host into a short source category such as chatgpt, perplexity, claude, gemini, or copilot, and sends that category with the current page path to GA4 as an ai_referral event. It does not send the full referring URL, its query string, an AI conversation, or a prompt. A session-storage flag prevents duplicate events for the same source during that browser session. If referrer or storage access is unavailable, this classification is skipped.
Advertising
The site does not currently load advertising scripts while it is being reviewed for publisher approval. If ads are enabled later, this policy will be updated before ad code is restored.
Your Choices
On your first visit a banner lets you accept or reject non-essential (analytics) cookies, and your choice is remembered on this device. Visitors in the EU and UK have these cookies switched off by default until they accept. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, use the GA4 opt-out add-on above, and manage ad personalization via Google My Ad Center. None of this affects access to the site's content.
Server Logs
The hosting provider may keep ordinary server logs for security, abuse prevention, diagnostics, caching, and uptime monitoring. Those logs can include IP address, browser type, requested URL, referrer, timestamp, and response status. Eclipse 2028 does not use those logs to build individual profiles or sell visitor data.
External Links
Some pages link to NASA, Timeanddate, EclipseWise, safety resources, and other third-party sites. Those sites have their own privacy practices. Opening an external source may expose your browser to that site's logs, cookies, or analytics, so review their policies if that matters to your use.
Contact
If you contact the project by email, the information you choose to send is used to answer the message, evaluate corrections, or coordinate legitimate project work. Do not email sensitive personal information. Questions about this policy can be sent through the contact page.
